Moving Close For short distance moving, it may seem strange to hire extra help. Other than a rental truck, you can do everything else on your own, right? So why pay for it? While this may be the case for those who don’t have families and large amount of items to transport, those who do may need to look into moving companies for assistance. By going through a professional moving service, you can insure that they’ll load and deliver your goods without any fear of mishandling, and you can always compare estimates to get the best deal out there. Packing Your Wine Collection If you’re a wine connoisseur and own a sizeable wine collection, you should consider these steps if you’re moving. It’s a good idea to have a professional appraise your collection if you believe it to be high-value. Purchasing wine-packing boxes is a good idea to safely transport your collection. Remember to always pack your wine on the side. Once you’ve moved into your new home, wait up to seven days for your wine to rest before you open a bottle. Packing Your Table Lamps When packing your table lamp, make sure you have an adequately sized box to accommodate it. If you can't find a carton that fits the size of your lamp, a dishpack carton will work as a substitute. Make sure you line the bottom of the box you're using with enough cushioning. So before you start packing your table lamp, remove the bulb and the lampshade. Wrap the lamp's cord around the base. Avoid using packing tape as it may strip the paint or outer coating of your lamp. Afterwards, cover the lamp in bubble wrap and fold over the edges on the top and bottom before you tape. Put the lamp in the box and fill any spaces with extra bubble wrap to prevent shifting during transit. Packing Heavy Items There are a few things you should keep in mind when you're packing items that weigh more than thirty pounds. Firstly, the box you're using should be of a stronger quality with seams that are either stitched or stapled. To prevent crushing or shifting, invest in corrugated or molded foams to protect your heavier belongings instead of packing paper or peanuts. Heavy cushioning could mean the difference between seeing your items safely home and finding them damaged after you unpack.
