Packing Crystal and Glassware Every piece of crystal and glassware should be individually covered with bubble wrap. If you pack more than one piece of crystal or glassware into a single box, go ahead and use dividers to prevent your items from bumping into each other during transit. You should also cushion the bottom of the box with a layer of materials such as extra bubble wrap or packing peanuts. Padded dish boxes work very well for transporting crystal or glassware. Be sure to mark “Fragile” and “This Side Up” on the box for the movers. Registering In a New State When you’re moving long distance, you should prioritize what items should be packed first amongst other considerations. Registering your car is also something to be aware of since you’ll assumedly be crossing into another state. Remember that each state has its own set of rules in terms of vehicle registration and tags, so be sure to research it prior to your move. That way, you can take the necessary steps once you’re there. Packing Clothes When it comes to your clothes, there are a variety of different ways to pack them. For your daily clothes that you wear at home, you can simply fold and put them in plastic or vacuum-sealed bags. For your work clothes and more expensive garments, you should consider purchasing wardrobe boxes with hanging bars. Protective plastic covers are also a good investment for jackets and dresses. Removing the Weights in a Grandfather Clock If you can’t afford to hire a clock specialist to service your grandfather clock, you can carefully remove the weights yourself. You should always don cotton gloves before you change/remove anything inside the clock. Remove the weights piece by piece and note each of their respective positions so you can reinstall them in the correct order. If the weights are suspended by cables, break off an adequately-sized piece of Styrofoam, cut a slit through the middle, and fit the Styrofoam around the pulley. This way, it'll prevent any damage your pulleys may receive during transit. Afterwards, remove the weights.
