Moving Musical Instruments Your musical instruments should be cleaned before packing. If you have any instruments that can be disassembled into individual parts such as a detachable mouthpiece, be sure to do so. Also, consider investing in a hard case for your instrument. Soft cases are great for carrying instruments, but the sturdier hard cases are better for loading and damage prevention. Jewelry For your jewelry, it would be in your best interest to invest in a security box for safekeeping, preferably one with a lock. You should also get your expensive jewelry appraised and if you haven’t already, possibly insured before any large scale moves. Keep in mind that the security box should be small enough for you to transport yourself. Your Relocation List Once you’ve decided that you’ll be moving, it’s time to plan out your steps by making a list. In the same vein as a to-do list, you should start separating different tasks such as packing order, contacting your primary care provider, transferring records, discontinuing utilities, and everything else by a weekly breakdown. Don’t be afraid to add more things as you go along, and by the time moving day arrives, you’ll be prepared to move in without any reservations as to whether or not you’ve missed any crucial details. Brokers for the Best Deals With their database of moving companies, moving brokers that are operating on a nationwide scale can often insure that you get discount moving company rates for your move. Many brokers often offer free moving quotes and compiled lists of moving companies in major cities and areas for you to search through at your leisure. So before you start making any definitive decisions on which carrier to hire, invest a little time with a moving broker and see what comes up. Chances are, you’ll find a deal you wouldn’t have found otherwise.

I contracted with Father and Son Moving in April and gave them my deposit for the move. They confirmed the day before with a time much later than agreed on. On that day they had excuses including; truck was in a wreck, only two trucks for seven moves that day, a mover was bit by a dog and needed stitches, among other excuses. They promised they would come that day. They never came, never called me and at 8:30 at night after another call, said that they would not come that night and could not come the next day either. Good luck with these folks.
