Packing Electronics Some basic things to take care of as you pack your electronics include ejecting any cassettes, compact discs, videotapes, or DVDs out of their players. If you’re planning on putting your electronics in storage for a long-term period, don’t use plastic as this could potentially cause damage to them by trapping moisture inside. Using the original boxes is often your best option because the boxes are already fitted for the specific dimensions of your electronics. Furniture Placement Before you move into your new home, you should look around for anything that may impact your furniture placement. Some examples of this include: built-in bookshelves, wainscoting, radiators, vents, columns, and fireplaces. Packing Your Lamp Shadees Your lamp shades should be packed in a separate box from your lamps. Avoid using newspaper as stuffing material as the ink may cause stains on your shades. Use clean packing paper or bubble wrap to protect your lamp shades' linings. Try stacking your lamp shades into a single, large carton with packing material between each. Moving Your Waterbed Before you move your waterbed, it may be in your best interest to invest in a protection plan in case it suffers any damage during transit. You'll want to drain the waterbed mattress with a drain pump, or if you're pressed for time, an electric pump which can deflate a waterbed mattress in half an hour. The time it takes to drain is contingent on what type of mattress you have and the water pressure. Once that's done, make sure you fold it from head to foot and pack it away in a carton. Make sure that there isn't anything inside that could potentially puncture it.
