Clean Out the Fridge Have you taken care of your refrigerator? Remember, you need to empty, defrost, and clean it out before the movers can load it. We recommend that you unplug your refrigerator and freezer at least 24 hours in advance before loading day. Leave the doors open so that they may come up to room temperature and air dry. Packing Electronics Some basic things to take care of as you pack your electronics include ejecting any cassettes, compact discs, videotapes, or DVDs out of their players. If you’re planning on putting your electronics in storage for a long-term period, don’t use plastic as this could potentially cause damage to them by trapping moisture inside. Using the original boxes is often your best option because the boxes are already fitted for the specific dimensions of your electronics. Economize Your Space A great way of lending yourself more space to work with while packing is by using a cleared table or a countertop for your packed boxes. Be sure to group them according to which room the items are meant for. Preparing Pots and Pans for Moving Although pots and pans vary in size, you can usually nest about three of each together in a single carton. Make sure you have large enough pieces of packing paper to cover the entire interior of your largest pan and leave some cushioning on the bottom of the crate. The first pot or pan you place inside the box should be the smallest in size. The pan or pot should be upside down with several sheets of packing paper on top of it before you stack the next one. Once you've stacked three, fill the spaces with packing material to prevent shifting.
