Stocking Up On Supplies You can find commercial moving supplies almost anywhere, from your local drugstores and supermarkets to moving storage buildings and truck rental places. Make sure to stock up on packing tape, boxes, box-cutters, labels, packing peanuts, and bubble wrap. Oftentimes, you can sell back any extra boxes or items you have left over. Taking Inventory Taking inventory is a great way of organizing and managing all of the different tasks you have to keep track of, and if you format it in a checklist style, you can easily separate the things you have yet to do and what you’ve already completed. Also, make note of the conditions of your belongings so that you have something to refer to once your belongings have been transported to your new home. Removing the Weights in a Grandfather Clock If you can’t afford to hire a clock specialist to service your grandfather clock, you can carefully remove the weights yourself. You should always don cotton gloves before you change/remove anything inside the clock. Remove the weights piece by piece and note each of their respective positions so you can reinstall them in the correct order. If the weights are suspended by cables, break off an adequately-sized piece of Styrofoam, cut a slit through the middle, and fit the Styrofoam around the pulley. This way, it'll prevent any damage your pulleys may receive during transit. Afterwards, remove the weights. Packing Your Table Lamps When packing your table lamp, make sure you have an adequately sized box to accommodate it. If you can't find a carton that fits the size of your lamp, a dishpack carton will work as a substitute. Make sure you line the bottom of the box you're using with enough cushioning. So before you start packing your table lamp, remove the bulb and the lampshade. Wrap the lamp's cord around the base. Avoid using packing tape as it may strip the paint or outer coating of your lamp. Afterwards, cover the lamp in bubble wrap and fold over the edges on the top and bottom before you tape. Put the lamp in the box and fill any spaces with extra bubble wrap to prevent shifting during transit.
