Stocking Up On Supplies You can find commercial moving supplies almost anywhere, from your local drugstores and supermarkets to moving storage buildings and truck rental places. Make sure to stock up on packing tape, boxes, box-cutters, labels, packing peanuts, and bubble wrap. Oftentimes, you can sell back any extra boxes or items you have left over. Meter Readings Before you close the door to your old home for the last time, jot down all of your meter readings. This way, you have a reference to look back on once you receive your final bill from the utility companies. You can also call the utility companies to arrange for meter readings on the last day if you have time. Furniture Placement Before you move into your new home, you should look around for anything that may impact your furniture placement. Some examples of this include: built-in bookshelves, wainscoting, radiators, vents, columns, and fireplaces. Packing Your Table Lamps When packing your table lamp, make sure you have an adequately sized box to accommodate it. If you can't find a carton that fits the size of your lamp, a dishpack carton will work as a substitute. Make sure you line the bottom of the box you're using with enough cushioning. So before you start packing your table lamp, remove the bulb and the lampshade. Wrap the lamp's cord around the base. Avoid using packing tape as it may strip the paint or outer coating of your lamp. Afterwards, cover the lamp in bubble wrap and fold over the edges on the top and bottom before you tape. Put the lamp in the box and fill any spaces with extra bubble wrap to prevent shifting during transit.
