Packing Crystal and Glassware Every piece of crystal and glassware should be individually covered with bubble wrap. If you pack more than one piece of crystal or glassware into a single box, go ahead and use dividers to prevent your items from bumping into each other during transit. You should also cushion the bottom of the box with a layer of materials such as extra bubble wrap or packing peanuts. Padded dish boxes work very well for transporting crystal or glassware. Be sure to mark “Fragile” and “This Side Up” on the box for the movers. Heavy Duty Moving If you’re looking for a full service mover that transports heavy cargo like boats and RVs, keep in mind that there are certain regulations placed by the Department of Transportation that movers have to abide by. For heavy equipment such as tractors, moving companies should offer specific accommodations for safe transportation such as registered blade guards, an adequately sized pintle hook, and wide selection of trailers. Some moving companies don’t even require you to disassemble your equipment. Take steps in figuring out which available service works for you and go from there when you’re looking for a company to move your heavy equipment. Help Your Movers You should try to arrive at your new home before your movers do so that you can oversee the unloading process, and also to help them out as much as you can. A great way to help them figure out which boxes go where is by taping names to the doors. Also, try mapping out the floor plans of your new house so they know where to go. Packing Your Table Lamps When packing your table lamp, make sure you have an adequately sized box to accommodate it. If you can't find a carton that fits the size of your lamp, a dishpack carton will work as a substitute. Make sure you line the bottom of the box you're using with enough cushioning. So before you start packing your table lamp, remove the bulb and the lampshade. Wrap the lamp's cord around the base. Avoid using packing tape as it may strip the paint or outer coating of your lamp. Afterwards, cover the lamp in bubble wrap and fold over the edges on the top and bottom before you tape. Put the lamp in the box and fill any spaces with extra bubble wrap to prevent shifting during transit.
