Registering In a New State When you’re moving long distance, you should prioritize what items should be packed first amongst other considerations. Registering your car is also something to be aware of since you’ll assumedly be crossing into another state. Remember that each state has its own set of rules in terms of vehicle registration and tags, so be sure to research it prior to your move. That way, you can take the necessary steps once you’re there. Moving Labor If you have friends with strong backs or family members who can lend a helping hand, you can save money by asking them to help you out on moving day. That way, you’ll have all of your furniture and belongings ready for loading before the movers arrive, and it’ll expedite the process so you can be one step closer to getting to your new home. Packing Your Table Lamps When packing your table lamp, make sure you have an adequately sized box to accommodate it. If you can't find a carton that fits the size of your lamp, a dishpack carton will work as a substitute. Make sure you line the bottom of the box you're using with enough cushioning. So before you start packing your table lamp, remove the bulb and the lampshade. Wrap the lamp's cord around the base. Avoid using packing tape as it may strip the paint or outer coating of your lamp. Afterwards, cover the lamp in bubble wrap and fold over the edges on the top and bottom before you tape. Put the lamp in the box and fill any spaces with extra bubble wrap to prevent shifting during transit. Wiping Up Residue Once you move into your new home, take some time to check inside your cabinets and drawers. The management most likely had pest control take care of any extra roommates after the last tenant left, but you can never be too sure if the pesticides are harmful to people. Get a dishrag and wipe inside your drawers and cabinets.
