Registering In a New State When you’re moving long distance, you should prioritize what items should be packed first amongst other considerations. Registering your car is also something to be aware of since you’ll assumedly be crossing into another state. Remember that each state has its own set of rules in terms of vehicle registration and tags, so be sure to research it prior to your move. That way, you can take the necessary steps once you’re there. Preparing Pots and Pans for Moving Although pots and pans vary in size, you can usually nest about three of each together in a single carton. Make sure you have large enough pieces of packing paper to cover the entire interior of your largest pan and leave some cushioning on the bottom of the crate. The first pot or pan you place inside the box should be the smallest in size. The pan or pot should be upside down with several sheets of packing paper on top of it before you stack the next one. Once you've stacked three, fill the spaces with packing material to prevent shifting. Helping the Kids Adjust Kids can have a lot of difficulty adjusting to the idea of moving. You can make the process enjoyable for the kids by planning and packing with them. If it's possible, give them a blueprint or a sketch of their new rooms. Ask your kids what they would like to do with their rooms like colors and designs. Sit down and go through their toys. Let your kids decide what they want to keep and what they want to throw away. By getting them involved, your kids will not only feel better, they might even be enthused about living in a new place. Wiping Up Residue Once you move into your new home, take some time to check inside your cabinets and drawers. The management most likely had pest control take care of any extra roommates after the last tenant left, but you can never be too sure if the pesticides are harmful to people. Get a dishrag and wipe inside your drawers and cabinets.
