Preparing the Pets Have you made arrangements for your pets? Consider visiting the vet before moving day. Be sure to take this opportunity to get your pet’s veterinary records. Weigh Down the Washer Machine If you’re planning on moving your washer machine, you can weigh down the appliance to keep it from moving around by filling it with blankets, pillows, hand towels, and other similar items. Hey, Plant Owners If you own plants, keep in mind that most moving companies won’t transport live and perishable things. Some states even prohibit the transportation of household plants. So unless you absolutely can’t part with them, you can always give your plants out to friends or charity. Preparing Pots and Pans for Moving Although pots and pans vary in size, you can usually nest about three of each together in a single carton. Make sure you have large enough pieces of packing paper to cover the entire interior of your largest pan and leave some cushioning on the bottom of the crate. The first pot or pan you place inside the box should be the smallest in size. The pan or pot should be upside down with several sheets of packing paper on top of it before you stack the next one. Once you've stacked three, fill the spaces with packing material to prevent shifting.
