Packing Crystal and Glassware Every piece of crystal and glassware should be individually covered with bubble wrap. If you pack more than one piece of crystal or glassware into a single box, go ahead and use dividers to prevent your items from bumping into each other during transit. You should also cushion the bottom of the box with a layer of materials such as extra bubble wrap or packing peanuts. Padded dish boxes work very well for transporting crystal or glassware. Be sure to mark “Fragile” and “This Side Up” on the box for the movers. Packing Clothes When it comes to your clothes, there are a variety of different ways to pack them. For your daily clothes that you wear at home, you can simply fold and put them in plastic or vacuum-sealed bags. For your work clothes and more expensive garments, you should consider purchasing wardrobe boxes with hanging bars. Protective plastic covers are also a good investment for jackets and dresses. Packing Your Lamp Shadees Your lamp shades should be packed in a separate box from your lamps. Avoid using newspaper as stuffing material as the ink may cause stains on your shades. Use clean packing paper or bubble wrap to protect your lamp shades' linings. Try stacking your lamp shades into a single, large carton with packing material between each. Holiday Moving Woes Moving during the holidays can be a depressing affair. You and you family may miss the familiar surroundings, people, and annual celebrations. There are several steps you can take to mitigate the emotional distance and feeling of loss you're experiencing. One method is by keeping familiar things around you, say objects from your loved ones around. Hang up ornaments your mother passed on to you. Also, getting out of the house can be very therapeutic. Go participate in the different festivals and celebrations that are taking place in your new city. Not only will it help you familiarize yourself with the new area, it opens up opportunities to meet new people.
