Packing Your Wine Collection If you’re a wine connoisseur and own a sizeable wine collection, you should consider these steps if you’re moving. It’s a good idea to have a professional appraise your collection if you believe it to be high-value. Purchasing wine-packing boxes is a good idea to safely transport your collection. Remember to always pack your wine on the side. Once you’ve moved into your new home, wait up to seven days for your wine to rest before you open a bottle. Removing the Weights in a Grandfather Clock If you can’t afford to hire a clock specialist to service your grandfather clock, you can carefully remove the weights yourself. You should always don cotton gloves before you change/remove anything inside the clock. Remove the weights piece by piece and note each of their respective positions so you can reinstall them in the correct order. If the weights are suspended by cables, break off an adequately-sized piece of Styrofoam, cut a slit through the middle, and fit the Styrofoam around the pulley. This way, it'll prevent any damage your pulleys may receive during transit. Afterwards, remove the weights. Wiping Up Residue Once you move into your new home, take some time to check inside your cabinets and drawers. The management most likely had pest control take care of any extra roommates after the last tenant left, but you can never be too sure if the pesticides are harmful to people. Get a dishrag and wipe inside your drawers and cabinets. Number by Priority One way of prioritizing your items for the move is by assigning numbers from most important to least important. Mark a 1 on all of your boxes that contain items you need immediately or on a regular basis. You should mark a 2 on boxes that have items you won't be using right away, but possibly within a month or so such as books and movies. A 3 should be assigned to seasonal items, and 4 for the items meant for storage.
