Packing Crystal and Glassware Every piece of crystal and glassware should be individually covered with bubble wrap. If you pack more than one piece of crystal or glassware into a single box, go ahead and use dividers to prevent your items from bumping into each other during transit. You should also cushion the bottom of the box with a layer of materials such as extra bubble wrap or packing peanuts. Padded dish boxes work very well for transporting crystal or glassware. Be sure to mark “Fragile” and “This Side Up” on the box for the movers. The Little Things Keep tabs on all of the little screws, nuts, and bolts when you’re dismantling your furniture. You can use Ziploc bags to pack them. Be sure to label them properly before putting them away! Oil Paintings Oil paintings require special handling when you move. Be sure to use non-acidic plastic wrap for the painting before wrapping it again with protective material such as bubble wrap. And just to make sure your painting is well-protected during transit, get a picture box to pack it in. Help Your Movers You should try to arrive at your new home before your movers do so that you can oversee the unloading process, and also to help them out as much as you can. A great way to help them figure out which boxes go where is by taping names to the doors. Also, try mapping out the floor plans of your new house so they know where to go.
