Registering In a New State When you’re moving long distance, you should prioritize what items should be packed first amongst other considerations. Registering your car is also something to be aware of since you’ll assumedly be crossing into another state. Remember that each state has its own set of rules in terms of vehicle registration and tags, so be sure to research it prior to your move. Be sure to make all of the necessary accommodations before you leave, such as transferring and closing accounts. Packing Your Mirrors Packing mirrors require special attention. You can safely wrap your mirrors in tissue paper or cover the mirror face with masking tape. However, if you have more expensive mirrors to move, you should consider investing in boxes that are specifically designed for transporting mirrors. Moving Your Waterbed Before you move your waterbed, it may be in your best interest to invest in a protection plan in case it suffers any damage during transit. You'll want to drain the waterbed mattress with a drain pump, or if you're pressed for time, an electric pump which can deflate a waterbed mattress in half an hour. The time it takes to drain is contingent on what type of mattress you have and the water pressure. Once that's done, make sure you fold it from head to foot and pack it away in a carton. Make sure that there isn't anything inside that could potentially puncture it.
