Pack One By One Start packing one room at a time to help organize and prioritize all of your belongings instead of working on multiple rooms at the same time. Packing Crystal and Glassware Every piece of crystal and glassware should be individually covered with bubble wrap. If you pack more than one piece of crystal or glassware into a single box, go ahead and use dividers to prevent your items from bumping into each other during transit. You should also cushion the bottom of the box with a layer of materials such as extra bubble wrap or packing peanuts. Padded dish boxes work very well for transporting crystal or glassware. Be sure to mark “Fragile” and “This Side Up” on the box for the movers. Loading the Trailer If you’re loading your boxes into a truck, be sure to get the heavier items inside first and the lighter items towards the back of the truck. This will prevent your truck from being unbalanced. Also, load the truck a quarter at a time and fit everything as tightly together as possible. Help Your Movers You should try to arrive at your new home before your movers do so that you can oversee the unloading process, and also to help them out as much as you can. A great way to help them figure out which boxes go where is by taping names to the doors. Also, try mapping out the floor plans of your new house so they know where to go.
