Hey, Plant Owners If you own plants, keep in mind that most moving companies won’t transport live and perishable things. Some states even prohibit the transportation of household plants. So unless you absolutely can’t part with them, you can always give your plants out to friends or charity. Moving Labor If you have friends with strong backs or family members who can lend a helping hand, you can save money by asking them to help you out on moving day. That way, you’ll have all of your furniture and belongings ready for loading before the movers arrive, and it’ll expedite the process so you can be one step closer to getting to your new home. Naturally, moving your belongings without hired help comes with its own risks. Movers are professionally trained to handle your belongings with the least amount of risk. Removing the Weights in a Grandfather Clock If you can’t afford to hire a clock specialist to service your grandfather clock, you can carefully remove the weights yourself. You should always don cotton gloves before you change/remove anything inside the clock. Remove the weights piece by piece and note each of their respective positions so you can reinstall them in the correct order. If the weights are suspended by cables, break off an adequately-sized piece of Styrofoam, cut a slit through the middle, and fit the Styrofoam around the pulley. This way, it'll prevent any damage your pulleys may receive during transit. Afterwards, remove the weights. Removing Your Bicycle's Chains It's recommended that you disassemble your bicycle into its individual parts before moving. The process of removing your bike's cables is simple. You'll want to take the cables out of the bike's stops. In order to slacken the brake cables, undo the releases on the arms or at the levers depending on what kind of bicycle you have. You can slacken the shifting cables by putting chain in the big cog combo before shifting down. Once all of the cables have been removed, you can disassemble the rest of the bike.
