Moving Tips
Moving Musical Instruments
Your musical instruments should be cleaned before packing. If you have any instruments that can be disassembled into individual parts such as a detachable mouthpiece, be sure to do so. Also, consider investing in a hard case for your instrument. Soft cases are great for carrying instruments, but the sturdier hard cases are better for loading and damage prevention.
Packing Your Mirrors
Packing mirrors require special attention. You can safely wrap your mirrors in tissue paper or cover the mirror face with masking tape. However, if you have more expensive mirrors to move, you should consider investing in boxes that are specifically designed for transporting mirrors.
Items Not Recommended To Move
The following are items you should not leave for the movers to transport: -Financial documents -Certificates of deposit -IRA’s-Stocks-Bonds-Airline tickets-Car keys-Address books-Checkbook-Computer disk storage-Family photographs-Wedding albums-Personal video tapes-Insurance policies-Deeds-Prescription medications-Medical and dental records-School records-Documents pertaining to new home-Open containers such as shampoos, dish soap, and liquor are not recommended because they may leak.-Candles are not recommended because they may melt and cause damage to other property.
Helping the Kids Adjust
Kids can have a lot of difficulty adjusting to the idea of moving. You can make the process enjoyable for the kids by planning and packing with them. If it's possible, give them a blueprint or a sketch of their new rooms. Ask your kids what they would like to do with their rooms like colors and designs. Sit down and go through their toys. Let your kids decide what they want to keep and what they want to throw away. By getting them involved, your kids will not only feel better, they might even be enthused about living in a new place.
